Hurricane Dorian Preparation

Ladies and Gentlemen,

UPDATE: Monday, Sept. 2 11:30 AM

Polk County is under a Tropical Storm Watch. This means that Tropical Storm force conditions are possible through the duration of the watch period.

At this time, we intend to be open for normal hours on Tuesday. Should this change, we will post updates here and on our Facebook page.

We are posting this out of an abundance of caution. We want to ensure that both  you and your pets are safe as we prepare for Hurricane Dorian. We are of course, hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

With Hurricane Dorian’s track and timing still uncertain, we urge all pet owners to be prepared in case Dorian has an impact on the Lakeland area. With the uncertainty, we cannot predict if Highland Pet Hospital will remain open during the storm. We will be closed on Labor Day in observance of the holiday. We anticipate being open for normal business hours on Tuesday based on the forecasted timing of the storm at the time of this posting. It appears the biggest question marks exist for late Tuesday into Wednesday- or perhaps Thursday.

If your pet requires prescription food or is low on their prescription medication, we strongly suggest contacting us immediately, as we cannot guarantee that we will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday or even Thursday due to the uncertain path and timing of Hurricane Dorian. If your pet is on their last refill for a medication they require, an exam may be required before we can refill their medications.

If your pet currently has an appointment for an exam, progesterone test, breeding or surgical procedure next week, we will be contacting you directly by phone to notify you if we will be able to accept patients. We will also attempt to update our website with whether we are open/closed- but this will be based on whether or not we have power and internet access to update this information. We will be updating our website on this page- so please bookmark it.

On behalf of the entire veterinary team here at Highland Pet Hospital, we wish you a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend, and pray that everyone stays safe.
