Dr. Carla Barstow

Theriogenologist in FloridaOriginally from Tampa, FL, Dr. Barstow has been showing and breeding Samoyeds for over 20 years. Prior to obtaining her DVM degree, she spent 10 years working in the veterinary field as a technician. Dr. Barstow pursued her DVM degree at the University of Minnesota, where she received mentorship from Dr. Peggy Root-Kustritz who cultivated her love of theriogenology (animal reproduction) even further. Upon graduation, Dr. Barstow returned to FL and joined a private practice which emphasized reproduction. She wanted to expand her theriogenology knowledge and was named the recipient of the American Kennel Club/Theriogenology Foundation Companion Animal Residency in Theriogenology at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of her residency and master’s degree she became a diplomate for the American College of Theriogenology. This is an advanced degree in reproduction that distinguishes Dr. Barstow as a board certified reproductive specialist, the only one in the greater Tampa Bay area. She is also an active member in the Society for Theriogenology.

When not at work, Dr. Barstow enjoys spending time with her daughter, mountain biking and reading. She continues to show her Samoyeds and is considering diving into the cat show world. Dr. Barstow was recently appointed co-chair for the Samoyed Club of America’s canine health committee.
